Frequently asked questions
What is a winwin® Market-Linked GIC?
A winwin® Market-Linked GIC guarantees that 100% of your principal investment is protected with the potential to earn more based on the performance of the underlying securities.
What are the differences between a winwin® Market-linked GIC and a regular GIC?
A winwin® Market-linked GIC is a non-redeemable GIC tied to a group of stocks from select companies - like financial, healthcare or insurance services - which gives the investor an opportunity to benefit from higher potential returns compared to traditional GICs, up to a specified maximum return.
A traditional GIC provides a fixed return known at the time of purchase and may be redeemable or non-redeemable depending on the type of GIC (e.g. cashable GICs vs. non-redeemable).
Which winwin® products are available?
The following products and terms are included in the current offering:
- winwin® Canadian Markets: 2-year and 4-year terms
- winwin® Global Markets: 2-year and 4-year terms
- winwin® Financial Services: 3-year and 5-year terms
- winwin EarthLink™: 3-year and 5-year terms
Is there a guaranteed return? Is my principal protected?
Each product and term may or may not offer a minimum guaranteed rate of return and the minimum guaranteed rate of return (if any) may change from one sales period to another. The minimum guaranteed rate of return may be zero, allowing you to always protect your principal investment when held to maturity. Members should review the full product agreement for applicable eligibility requirements, redemption conditions, and other terms.
What does “maximum potential cumulative return” mean?
It is the highest total market-linked return that may be earned over the full term of the investment. It is not an annual rate and is not guaranteed.
How is the final return calculated?
You could experience a higher than usual interest rate payment on the maturity date of a winwin® term depending on the final index performance. In the final year, the interest rate paid would be the difference between the final rate of return minus the minimum rate (if any) already paid. - If the index return is below the Minimum Guaranteed Return, you will receive the principal plus the Minimum Guaranteed Return.
- If the index return is above the Maximum Potential Cumulative Return, you will receive the principal plus the Maximum Potential Cumulative Return.
